Cloud Nursery - Girl Nursery Inspiration

It makes my heart happy to share our latest nursery design with you today. I had this idea of a serene cloud nursery long before we knew if we would be able to have another baby.

The vision for this nursery with a large pink/green sky wall mural sat in my head for almost two years. I thought getting pregnant again might not be in the cards for us.

So when I stand in the room now holding our daughter I am so grateful. Seeing my vision brought to life gives me all the warm fuzzies inside.

Now came the fun part, to bring the cloud nursery to life with the following details.

Dreamy Cloud Nursery Details

Our son’s outdoor themed nursery was a modern, bold, monochromatic woodland nursery.

Pink and Green Girl Nursery with Cloud Shelves

Our daughter’s nursery looks entirely different. I designed this nursery to be softer with more color incorporated throughout the space.

We saved money on pieces for this room by reusing and modifying pieces from our son’s nursery.

See if you can spot what we used from his nursery. Okay, on to the tour of the room!

Painted Sky Mural for Cloud Nursery

Cloud Nursery - Hand Painted Sky Mural by Brent Richardson

Cloud Nursery - Hand Painted Sky Mural by Brent Richardson

One night while I was scrolling through Pinterest looking for nothing in particular, I came across a photo of a pink sky.

It sounds silly but I had an instant connection to this photo. My whole vision for this nursery was inspired by this sky.

I asked Brent if he could paint the photo for me as the accent wall for the nursery. I didn’t doubt for one second that he could paint something beautiful but boy did Brent exceed my expectations. It is gorgeous!

Brent used the COLORSNAP® APP to pick the colors out of our inspiration photo. He did this first step when he painted the galaxy wall mural as well.

Brent free painted the dreamy sky mural by hand. He amazes me with his artistic talent.

Rocking Chair + Side Table in our Cloud Nursery

Reupholster a rocking chair for girl nursery

Do you remember when we converted an accent chair into a rocking chair?

We did the same thing this time around but we needed a slimmer chair because there is less space in our cloud nursery room.

Rocking Chair Makeover

Lucky for us we had one sitting in the garage. This beige accent chair was originally in our guest room.

The accent chair acquired a few stains over the years and the existing beige fabric didn’t go with the colors in the room. For this rocking chair DIY project we took it a step further. Brent took it apart and reupholstered the chair.

We covered it with the prettiest mint linen fabric we purchased from the IrenaLinenCraft shop on Etsy.

After the chair was covered, Brent built a new rocking chair base.

Cloud Nursery Decor- Cloud Plush

This chair is smaller so instead of a pillow I added this cute and happy plush cloud.

Stump Side Table and Owl Sound Machine in Cloud Nuresry

We reused the tree stump side table from our outdoor themed nursery.

The owl Skip Hop baby sound machine is a favorite of both of our kids and even has a setting with birds sounds!

Crib in Cloud Nursery

Darlington Crib by Million Dollar Baby for Girl Sky Nursery

Note: We were gifted the Darlington 4-in-1 Convertible Crib by Million Dollar Baby Classic. All opinions are our own.

I knew as soon as I saw the Darlington crib from Million Dollar Baby that it would be the perfect crib to be the stand out piece in the room.

I wanted the crib in our cloud nursery to have sophistication and plenty of detail. The Darlington Crib fit the description beautifully. Plus, it is a convertible crib which means it can convert to different sizes as our daughter grows. It can even be converted into a full-size bed.

My favorite part of the Darlington crib is the linen fabric on the back panel.

Our initial intention was to reupholster the fabric to be a pink linen which the way it is made makes it easy to do.

I am so glad we assembled the crib and put it in the room first. Once it was in the room, the color of the fabric picked up the pink tones on the wall and blanket and the match was subtle and perfect.

I added this this soft gauze blush blanket as a finishing touch.

DIY Cloud Rug in Cloud Nursery

Cloud Rug in Cloud Nursery

We made our own large cloud shaped rug out of the 5′ x 7′ white shag rug that was in our son’s nursery.

Brent created a template on the computer and then traced it on the back on the rug and cut it out.

Changing Table in Cloud Nursery

White Changing Table in a Girl Nursery

Ah, the changing table. Would you believe me if I told you this was the same gray changing table that Brent built for our son’s outdoor nursery?

Well it is!

The changing table I wanted for this room was out of stock and I didn’t find another changing table that fit the size of the wall and was in our price range.

I’m not sure why we didn’t think of it sooner but we gave the gray changing table a makeover.

The makeover included painting the dresser white, adding trim and new feet so that it matched the Darlington crib, changing out the doors/shelves for drawers, and adding new rose gold drawer pulls.

I love it so much and we saved so much money by just updating our existing build. I had saved the changing pad so I knew it fit and just bought a new changing pad cover.

This time around I have been using a Gathre micro mat on top of the changing pad cover because it is easy to wipe off and saves time having to wash the cover all the time.

I am really liking having drawers this time around in the changing table. Brent made me drawer dividers so I could organize all the necessities.

The tall cabinet that once held the diaper changing pail we turned into a drawer with a laundry bag attached for dirty clothes.

Wooden Birds

Wire Name Sign

My second favorite part of this room are these wooden birds. How cool are they?! Brent designed the birds and the wood pieces to attach them to the wall.

We laser cut the shapes and used 12 gauge rose gold wire to make the birds stick off the wall.

Connor and I painted the wood birds with leftover white and pink paint from the sky wall mural.

I purchased artificial pampas grass stems from the LUXEBPAMPASGRASS shop through Etsy and they are so pretty!

I like the birds flying out of the tall grass.

The vase will move to higher ground once our girl is on the move but I love how they look in the corner of this room.

Wall Shelves in Girl Nursery

These IKEA shelves were in the playroom but I couldn’t get more for our cloud nursery so we just moved them from the playroom into this room to showcase a few sweet decor pieces.

No nursery at our house would be complete without an original Brent watercolor painting. Brent painted this mama and baby chickadee for me. I love how it looks like a vintage postcard in this thin metal frame.

Also, some of my favorite pieces are these stacking cups and this rainbow teether I bought that are Mushie brand.

We made a DIY rainbow abacus. There are a couple out there on the market to buy. We made our own because some are pretty expensive. This piece is just a decor piece and is not intended to be a toy.

We made our own rainbow abacus so we could customize the wire to be the same rose gold 12 gauge wire that matched our name sign.

We painted the beads the same colors from our sky mural so it is custom made to match the room.

Cloud Bookshelves

Cloud Bookshelves in a Cloud Nursery

I curated a collection of books for our daughter to display on cloud shelves in her room.

I picked books that fit the theme of the room, the colors of the room and/or I just really liked the message of the book.

Before she was born our four year old greatly enjoyed reading all of these books.

You can find all the books I curated for these shelves in our Cloud Nursery Book List on Amazon.

I love this crazy little flamingo plush to go with the the Flora and the Flamingo book.

Bird Print + Toy Storage in Cloud Nursery

Daughter Lyrics Print

Bird Nursery Art Print

Before I even knew I was having a daughter I fell in love with the song “Daughter” by Sleeping at Last. If you haven’t heard it, find it on your favorite streaming device and give it a listen. The lyrics are beautiful.

I wanted to incorporate the lyrics somehow in the room when we found out we were having a daughter. The whole song is so sweet but there is a line about birds sing sweeter that fit the theme of the room perfectly.

Brent painted me a few birds and I made this bird nursery art digital print to frame and display in her room. It makes me so happy every time I walk into her room.

Cloud Nursery - Blanket and Toy Storage

This large white basket is perfect for storing her extra blankets and stuffed animals.

Quick question – how did you attach the wire for the birds to the wall?
