Talk about dreamy! Designing this cloud birthday party for our daughter’s 1st birthday was a dream come true for me. From the large DIY plastic tablecloth backdrop, the whimsical cloud table settings, and the hot air balloon centerpieces, it was a a party filled with DIY projects. And a special day celebrating our little girl’s first year.

This was my last first birthday party so I spent a lot of time dreaming up the details for this special day.

Cloud Birthday Party Theme
I chose to do a cloud theme with pastel colors based on Zoey’s cloud nursery. I always start out by creating a logo for the party to get my creative juices flowing. I incorporate the logo, colors, and fonts into various aspects of the party including invitations and signs. Jungle Giant was my font of choice for this party.
Cloud Party Costume
I love creating themed birthday portraits. It is a lot of fun to incoropate them into the party details for an extra special touch. It became a tradition with my son that I am excited to carry on with my daughter as well.
For our daughter’s cloud themed party we create a vintage adventure vibe. We made our own mini hot air balloon for her to sit in using a large 36″ peach balloon and a borrowed basket.
We tied little burlap bags to the side. I found the cutest small blue paper box and large pink paper box that look like vintage suitcases at Target and they completed the look of our vintage adventure styled photograph.
Cloud Party Invitations
I designed a simple hot air balloon invitation for the party. I made my own cloud envelope liner because I couldn’t find anything that fit with the style I was going for to fit in A8 aqua envelopes.
I designed the back of the invitation to be a post card to keep with the adventure theme and included the Zoey in the hot air balloon photograph.
I also designed these time capsule notes, cards, and envelopes and included them with the invitation. Time capsule note cards are a special and sentimental touch for first birthday parties.
I sent them ahead of time with the invitation so guests would have time to fill it out and not feel pressured or forget at the party. Also, that way if guests could not attend, they could still mail in their time capsule card.
Cloud Cake
We baked our daughter her own personal cloud theme cake sitting on a mini white cake stand. We kept it simple. I made the hot air balloon cake topper and we created “clouds” by putting cotton candy on lollipop sticks.
Treats
I love how our dessert table turned out. We set up a long table where we displayed treats, our time capsule, and our first year photo display.
These mint baking cups are so cute and made it easy for our guests to grab our pink trail mix. We displayed the trail mix cups on this DIY tired stand we made ages ago.
Our pink trail mix for the grown-ups and big kids consisted of Vanilla Yogurt Raisins / Dried Sweetened Strawberries / Dry Roasted Peanuts / Circus Animal Cookies
We made vanilla cupcakes with buttercream icing for guests since the cake was just for the birthday girl. I love these blush tulip cupcake wrappers. We displayed them on the cake stand we used at our wedding.
For the cupcake toppers I attached hot air balloon stickers to toothpicks.
We used a copycat Starbucks birthday cake pop recipe to make our pink cake pops.
Cloud Table Setting
For this party I wanted to create table settings so we removed our couch from our living room (haha) and set up a long table
Our hot air balloon centerpieces filled with flowers were a fun and inexpensive DIY project.
I had so much fun setting up the place settings for this party. The pink silverware is adorable.
The large plates and green cups are reusable. We laser cut and painted the wood cloud chargers and cloud name tags.
I sprinkled a little iridescent foil confetti around the table for a magical touch!
First Year Photo Display
First year photo displays are a great personalized decor piece at a first birthday party. We laser cut the clouds to match the place cards.
Cloud Garland
I decorated the present opening bench with felt cloud garland that I made from laser cut felt clouds as well as a handmade yarn wall hanging and a script one balloon.
Time Capsule Table
Time capsule stations are one of my favorite things to set up at a first birthday party. If guests already filled out their note card they could just drop it in the pink suitcase. Otherwise we also had note cards, envelopes, pens, stickers, etc. for them to leave a special note.
I don’t open any of the envelopes but rather put them in a special box to save for Zoey to open when she turns 18.
Cloud Party Decor
Whimsical elements like a smiling cloud balloon and a mini rainbow piñata bring a cheerful touch.
I did a lot of projects with yarn for this party but this wood bead and yarn garland for the high chair is my favorite!
If you are throwing a sky birthday party soon, I hope our party could provide you inspiration!

✨ Party Time ✨
Zoey was all smiles during her first birthday party. Except when she had to take photos instead of diving into her cake. We had so much fun celebrating her first year and she even took her first steps at her party!
